In my career in the film and television business I've worked just about every job on the set. For all of these pursuits a good knife is essential and I've owned and tried just about everything out there, from high end production knives and expensive custom folders to $10 wood handled Opinels. They all have their place, but for under $60 (if you shop around), these FFG Enduras are just incredible. They fit the hand beautifully, the VG-10 steel has great corrosion resistance, takes a beautiful edge and holds it, and with a little practice the blade can be deployed as almost fast as an automatic. The back lock design is a bit awkward to close one handed, but it can be done, and IMO it's a small trade off for the simplicity and durability of the design. It flips open easy, is light, and I love the blue color. When my desk gets cluttered and I need to leave in a hurry, its good to be able to see a bright blue handle, grab it, and leave. The lockup is very tight, no blade play or wobble in any direction. The full flat ground blade is an awesome slicer. Out of the box I made some bald patches on my arms testing out the sharpness. The grip on it is great, although I would prefer G10. The jimping on the blade is great too, I don't feel like this knife is going to slip very easily at all, it has great control. If you do decide to get this knife, check out the zip tie mod for it on youtube. It's just like the Emerson style opener. They have come out with a limited run for 2010 of endura's and delica's with flat ground blades and different colored handles. It is nice to get a spydie in another color besides black for a change. They are built with the same high quality construction you would expect from spyderco. The endura 4 model comes in blue, brown, grey, green, and purple. If you know knives, than you know that you get what you pay for with spyderco. I recommend this knife highly! This knife is a wicked slicer! |
