The protractor has excellent functions and works well - but the plastic is so brittle that one was shattered in the package, and the other broke almost immediately. I've had other MGRS protractors that were made from a much more flexible plastic, which is what you need if you are going to be using the thing for any real land nav in other than a classroom situation. The breakage problem commented on elsewhere has been solved. There should now be no problem in reasonable use. There are now instructions, with test questions, and a hole in the center. I think the hole is too big, but maybe it doesn't really affect the accuracy in actual use, or maybe if you're using a thin twig you picked-up off the ground, and not a pin - it needs to be that big. There is a SLIGHT offset in the degrees and radians scales - as if the degrees aren't quite big enough (I'm maybe being a bit picky here)but I think it's too small to affect the accuracy you'd get. The lettering could be maybe be a touch darker, but the unit is supposed to be coated to protect it; in that case, it's fine.This item probably deserves 4-1/2 stars, I'd say it's the one to get. 8 of 10 people found the following review helpful Almost perfect, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Improved Military UTM/MGRS Reader & Protractor "Super GTA" (Misc.) The only thing lacking to make it perfect is a string through the center so the protactor angle can be extended from one point to another or to plot a course or back-bearing. Also, the instructions for this device assumes you already have a knowledge of how to use. A book on compass and navigation is a good aide to accompany this UTM map reader. |
