It came shaving sharp out of the box. It's a Mora blade, so you know what it can do. I'm going to beat the crap out of this knife backpacking this summer.Also, I really like the rubber handle - comfortable to grip. The firesteel on the back is a little stiff at first, but once you have pulled it out 10 times or so it comes out easier. Sheath is basic but functional - I may get an aftermarket leather one in time. There are some really thorough reviews out on the web, much better than I can do. This is the one I liked best. You can see the knife batoning and drilling. I wanted a knife to throw in my pack for hiking back East and wanted it to be lightweight. I have plenty of knives but this one caught my eye in the store. I have not used it yet, but the steel looks amazing. If you are into knives, you can get a pretty good sense for the steel just by drawing it down some crocksticks. This seems like really good stuff. Super sharp. It has a particularly nice style of grind near the point to keep a thin edge for the working tip area, considering the overall Scandinavian type of grind (sharply beveled grind from thick style blade. So, very different from what you see with a hollow grind or flat grind style of knives in the US). Anyway, the steel seems really terrific, the grind is great, and the handles is ultra comfortable. I have several knives ranging from bowie,combat and survival. They are nice but much larger than the MORA. I have been working on several Bug Out Bags with each one having fire starters and several knives. After using them over the last couple of years Backpacking,camping and fishing I've come to the conclusion that this MORA Light My FireKnive would help eleminate sevaral of the knives I cary as well as the fire starters thus freeing up more space in my backback and reducing weight. There are several videos on the MORAS on Youtbue with great reviews and good info. I have to say that I am very happy with the quality of this knife and the size.
