Best pocket saw for big timber., By Spanky Mcdooble (Montana) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Chainmate 48-Inch Survival Pocket Chain Saw With Pouch (Lawn & Patio) This saw is pretty slick. If you want to cut anything bigger than 12" it is much easier with 2 people. My brother and I cut a fallen dead cottonwood >24" in 5 Minutes. You will need to practice to get the right technique at first. If you have sissy hands, you might want gloves until you get calluses if you use this a lot or cut bigger stuff.48" saw is longer than I need. Really for backpacking 24" would be enough. FYI this is just a chainsaw blade with ever other tooth turned around. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful Cuts Fast, By FearTheNoFear "FearTheNoFear" (Michigan) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Chainmate 48-Inch Survival Pocket Chain Saw With Pouch (Lawn & Patio) It cuts a lot fast than using a regular handsaw. I'm glad I got the 48-inch chain instead of a smaller one. This one can cut trees that are pretty large in diameter. The bigger the tree the longer it will take but why not get a good workout while you're exploring the local trails. Main reason I got this was because I run across downed trees on the trails and end up not being able to get past them. The only thing that would make this better is if there was teeth on both sides so you didn't have to mess around with getting the right side to cut. I was a little worried about the handles not being comfortable enough because there's other chains on Amazon that have different kind of handles but these handles are perfect for getting a good grip on the chain. You do have to keep the chain taught in order for it to cut smoothly. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Great Hand or Rope Saw, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Chainmate 48-Inch Survival Pocket Chain Saw With Pouch (Lawn & Patio) I was looking for something that I could use for both limbs on the ground and dead branches up in the trees. I've used this saw for both and it's worked well in both cases.Ground: The saw works great on the ground. It's easy to feed around the limb and makes quick work of things. I was using alone however I suspect the 48" length would easily allow two people to man the saw. Rope Saw: This product wasn't designed to be a rope saw however works quite well in that capacity. I bought 100 feet of Rothco Type III Commercial Paracord and attached a 50 foot length to each end. A weight (and some practice) allowed me to lob the rope over a limb and feed the saw up. It takes a little trial and error to get the saw started: - The metal pieces that adapt from the chain to the handle occasionally get hung up on the... Read more |
